Does the Transgo kit increase pressure to all the hydraulic circuits that control shifting? This was going to be my next move but this adjustment seems to work. My thought on increasing the line pressure is that it will place more force on the friction elements giving them more holding power. When I tightened up the TV cable last year it seemed to fix the slipping but I eventually did notice it but much less frequently. I'll need to drive the truck more to see if the random slipping that I've noticed with all 3 transmissions that have been in this truck comes back. I would think that would make more of a significant difference in shift feel as opposed to the filter change since the fluid and filter were very clean. I increased it 10 psi which is almost 20% higher. The line pressure is supposed to be 54-60 psi closed throttle. This was to be my next step but with the way it is shifting now I think I will leave it alone for now. This is probably why the Transgo shift kit improves reliability. When it failed I was cruising on the highway unloaded under light throttle, exactly where all 3 of my 46 RE's seem to randomly slip. Just before transmission #1 failed the transmission overtemp light came on. I think many of the problems with these transmissions are caused by inadequate pressure in the OD and/or TC hydraulic circuits which allow the friction components to slip causing excessive heat. I'll do the front band maybe this weekend. I did adjust the rear band but it ended up close to where it was to begin with. Magnet had a very small amount of what I believe is wear in particles. This tranny has less than 20,000 miles on it and the fluid looked very clean as did the filter mesh inside the filter. The fluid and filter change was done as a check since these transmissions make me very nervous regarding failing. Before the adjustment the shift feel had not changed since this transmission was installed. It definitely shifts firmer across the board including TC lockup. I'm hoping this might be the magic fix these transmissions need. Anyone have any thoughts on this? TACTRANSMAN what do you think? You seem very knowledgeable with these transmissions. I'm thinking this may be a problem with these transmissions that causes such a high failure rate. It used to take a few seconds to complete the TC lockup, now it takes less than 1 second. It shifts faster, without too much delay and does not take as long to shift into overdrive and lockup the TC. My 1st impression after driving the truck for about 10 miles is good. I backed the screw out 6 turns which increases the pressure about 10 psi closed throttle. The shop manual shows a line pressure adjustment screw on the valve body that changes line pressure approx. That helped reduce the frequency of it slipping so I thought this may be a pressure related defect either in the transmission's design or maybe a misadjustment. The last thing I tried was to tighten the TV cable a bit to eliminate it. This transmission like the other two that have lived in this truck randomly slip when in overdrive cruising. Just finished changing the filter and fluid in my.
